WRX Takes on STi Body, Hold your breath for its release in September 2010
WRX STEALS STI STYLING For those car buffs that love the styling of the sti but cant quite afford the hefty price tag the 2011 WRX STi, the MY11 WRX may be just what you are looking for.
Due to be released in the last quarter of 2010 the powertrain details have so far been kept under wraps but I am sure we can keep our fingers crossed for significant power and efficiency improvements. The return of the WRX in both sedan and hatch variants will undoubtedly bring back a whole new market of fans and buyers alike.
The 2009 model WRX copped criticism for looking feminine and loosing its boy racer feel. To overcome this Subaru have dressed the 2011 WRX with a strikingly wide body drawing similarities to the 09 sti. We all know this means the 2011 WRX will be a stocky looking mean driving machine.
The managing Director of Subaru Australia Nick Senior commented on the 2011 WRX saying "This new look gives the iconic Impreza WRX even greater presence in a package which has already won accolades for its turbocharged Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive ability”. “This design further distinguishes our turbo Impreza variants, including the Impreza WRX STI, from the normally aspirated versions, which we're sure will please the many loyal WRX fans out there." Some of the restyled points of significance include the 1.5 inch wider track front and rear, wider 17×8-inch wheels and the rear subframe bushings from the STI.
It doesn’t stop there the front end also gets a new front lip spoiler with a larger blacked out grill and intakes. In terms of weight The WRX has gained 15.42 kg but to keep up with that, the turbocharged 2.5 litre flat four produces 195 kW of power. A round of applause to Subaru for listening to what its fans and drivers truly wanted to see in the WRX. I will be holding my breath for its release in September 2010.
